Chroma Keying refers to a process of shooting a subject against a blue or even green color background. Linwood Dunn was the first one to experiment with that concept. He worked with RKO pictures when he used traveling mattes to create wipes in "Flying Down to Rio" of 1933. For this movie, Dunn designed a variety of special effects with the homemade printer. With the advancement of television, these visual effects even further developed. Digital photography has modified the use of those visual effects to a much greater extent. Steps to use Chroma Keying:

Set the backdrop for this process of photography. You can use the green or blue color as the background of the subject. These two shades are the primary ones for they are the farthest from the human skin tone. If you use any other color just like brown, it gets entangled with the skin of the subject. The light gets reflected on using light shades like white or yellow. Blue or green colors are separate from the human skin tone. These shades make the masking of the background color easy and smooth. The chroma key screen needs to be evenly lit to avoid any kind of shadows and make the masking smooth. Make sure that the subject should not wear any color which is being used as the background screen. Or, the process of masking will be obstructed. Light the subject properly while shooting. You can use key light which lights up the subject and the background. Fill light is used for removing the shadows that falls on the face or clothes of the subject. Back light is actually used for lighting up the background of the subject. A person is also able to use amber gels or color filters for creating visual effect on the subject. You are able to make the subject seem attractive through using these amber gels. After shooting the subject, a person is able to digitally replace the background of the subject by any other desirable photograph. You are able to place your subject in a sea beach area or in the green fields with this photography.
